Smuggled goods worth more than Rs 5 crore were seized in a joint operation of security forces in Kamjong district of Manipur on January 21.
An official said that acting on credible intelligence regarding the illegal transportation of areca nuts in Kangpat centre village, a joint search operation was launched.
The column intercepted seven trucks illegally carrying areca nuts without valid documents, meant for unlawful distribution in the black market.
A total of 570 bags (45.6 tons) of areca/beetel nuts amounting to Rs 5.472 crore was seized and subsequently handed over to forest beat officer, Kamjong district.
