Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that state police will register a criminal case against Rahul Gandhi and will arrest him after the Lok Sabha election.

In the aftermath of a clash between police and Congress workers in the Khanapara area in Guwahati, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on January 23 that a criminal case will be registered against Rahul Gandhi. The Chief Minister alleged that the Congress leader attempted to enter Guwahati with approximately 3000 people and 200 vehicles, leading to the confrontation.

“We can imagine what would have been the situation if 3000 people and 200 vehicles had entered Guwahati. For six days, we were telling him to go by the route they are comfortable with, but not to go through the middle route of Guwahati. Even after saying this, they (Congress workers) clashed with the police,” stated Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press briefing.

He went on to accuse Rahul Gandhi of instigating the incident by standing in the vehicle and confirmed that a criminal case would be registered against him. The police will conduct an inquiry, and the Wayanad MP will be arrested after the conclusion of the Lok Sabha elections.

“Rahul Gandhi had been instigating the entire incident by standing in the vehicle. We will register a criminal case against Rahul Gandhi. Police will inquire and will take action as per law. We will not arrest him yet; we will arrest him after the Lok Sabha election,” Himanta Biswa Sarma asserted.

Rahul Gandhi is currently leading the Congress party’s ‘Manipur to Mumbai Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’. As the yatra approached Guwahati, Congress workers were prevented from entering the city, resulting in clashes with Assam Police.

Earlier in the day, the Congress workers clashed with Assam police after being stopped from entering Guwahati city.

Addressing another pressing issue, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commented on the recent rhino poaching incident in Kaziranga National Park. He pledged to review the matter and take swift action against the culprits.

“Yesterday, we got bad news. I will review this today, and we will take action so that we can arrest the culprits soon. Today I will discuss the matter with the officers of Kaziranga,” said the Assam Chief Minister.
