Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, during an event inaugurating the Students Hostel at Hajongbori, Chandrapur, in Guwahati, highlighted the remarkable contributions of Maharaj Prithu, the revered king of Kamrup. Sonowal specifically praised Maharaj Prithu for thwarting the advance of Afghan invader Bakhtiyar Khilji, known for destroying the renowned Nalanda Vishwavidyalaya.
Describing Maharaj Prithu as “the symbol of courage, valour, and a source of inspiration for Asomiya,” Sonowal emphasized the historical significance of Prithu’s heroic efforts in defending Assam against Khilji’s invasion.
The newly inaugurated Students Hostel, constructed under the Bharati Multipurpose Educational Project with untied funds and support from the MP Development Fund, is a testament to the government’s commitment to providing quality education infrastructure.
Addressing the audience, Sarbananda Sonowal urged students to draw inspiration from Assam’s glorious past and integrate its values into the modern context to contribute to the development of a smart society.
“A healthy interaction between smart teachers and smart students will shape up a smart society,” remarked Sonowal during his speech, emphasizing the importance of quality education and knowledge exchange, on January 27.
Reflecting on Maharaj Prithu‘s historical role, Sonowal stated, “Under the glorious leadership of Maharaj Prithu, an inspiring assault was led against the incoming invasion of Afghan invader Bakhtiyar Khilji. Thanks to the grit, determination, courage, valour, and military strategic genius of Maharaj Prithu, Khilji’s advance was thwarted, ensuring the glory and respect of Assam and the Northeast.”
He also expressed humility at the inauguration of the student’s hostel named after Maharaj Prithu, emphasizing its role in promoting education and facilitating knowledge exploration.
Sonowal concluded by aligning the government’s vision with Prime Minister Modi’s emphasis on the promotion of education ingrained with Indian values. He urged students to seize the opportunity, contribute to building a strong, self-reliant, and proud India, and play a key role in realizing the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
