Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on February 9 chaired a preparatory meeting ahead of the presentation of the state budget for this fiscal, as informed by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) through an official statement.

The meeting took place at Janata Bhawan in the state capital, Guwahati, and was attended by Assam finance minister Ajanta Neog along with senior government officials.

Finance minister Neog is scheduled to present the state budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 in the assembly on February 12.

Neog emphasized that a realistic budget has been prepared, aiming to address the priorities of every sector. “Firstly, we have prepared a realistic budget. We are striving to present a budget that addresses the needs of every sector in the state. Our focus is to provide benefits to women and youth, and overall, we aim to enhance public and capital expenditures with a focus on infrastructure development,” the finance minister stated.

In the previous year, Ajanta Neog presented a budget with an aggregate expenditure estimated at Rs 3.21 lakh crore for the year.

The ‘Budget Session’ of the Assam assembly commenced on February 5.
