Gomati milk products will be made available in the Fair Price shops at an affordable price

In a move aimed at bolstering the Public Distribution System (PDS) and making essential dairy products more accessible to citizens, the Tripura government has announced the availability of Gomati milk products in Fair Price shops at affordable prices. This initiative aligns with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to enhance the effectiveness of the PDS.

The announcement was made by Tripura chief minister Manik Saha during the inauguration ceremony held at Pragati Vidyabhavan ground, Agartala on February 16. The event marked the commencement of merchandising various milk products including ice cream, curd, ghee, and paneer through Fair Price shops.

Initially, a select number of ration shops have been identified for the implementation of this pilot project, with plans to gradually expand coverage to other ration shops across the state in subsequent phases.

The Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd, established in 1982, operates within the geographical boundaries of Tripura, with its headquarters located in Indranagar, Agartala, Tripura West. The primary objectives of the society include ensuring fair prices for milk producers, providing quality milk and dairy products at reasonable prices to consumers, and facilitating milk procurement through village-level cooperative societies.

This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to promoting dairy farming and ensuring access to nutritious dairy products for the citizens of Tripura, thereby contributing to the overall welfare and development of the state.
