A Meghalaya police sub-inspector died and two others were injured in a road accident on February 17 at Gurugram (Gurgaon) in Haryana, a police officer said.

Sub-inspector Amit Sinha was involved in an accident near the Sanar International Hospital in Gurugram, after an unidentified vehicle hit the vehicle Sinha and his friend were riding from behind while they were returning to Chandigarh after having dinner at a restaurant between 3.30 am and 3.50 am, chief of Ri Bhoi district said.

While Sinha’s friend and the driver of the vehicle were admitted to hospital with critical injuries, the police officer was declared dead by the doctors at the Sanar International Hospital.

Sinha, who was attached to the office of the Superintendent of Police, Ri Bhoi district in Meghalaya, was on an official visit to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in Chandigarh.

Meanwhile, Gurugram Police have registered a case, and started investigating the case. The investigating team is trying to access CCTV footage in the area to ascertain how the accident happened, which led to Amit Sinha’s death.

Gurugram Police are trying to ascertain his friend’s antecedents, and are also in touch with the Meghalaya Police.
