Nine dead, 5 injured in road accident in Bihar

At least nine people died and five others sustained serious injuries when a truck hit an autorickshaw carrying passengers on Lakhisarai -Sikandra road under the Ramgarh Chowk police outpost in Lakhisarai district of Bihar on February 20 night.

Police on February 21 said that a truck hit an autorickshaw near Ramgarh Chowk around 1:30 am. “Nine people were killed and five others injured in the accident,” police added.

“Police reached on the spot soon after receipt of the information and sent the victims to a local hospital for treatment,” the police said, adding that five people with serious injuries were sent to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) in Patna for better treatment.

All nine bodies had been sent for a postmortem, police informed. The deceased had not been identified as yet, police stated.

“Eight of nine deceased were stated to be residents of Janghera village under Jamalpur police station area in Munger district,” police said, adding that the deceased were catering staff returning Munger from Lakhisarai.

The driver managed to escape from the spot with the truck after the incident, and police further said that an attempt was being made to track the truck driver and arrest him.
