PM Narendra Modi makes his way to Guwahati from airport

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Guwahati on a two-day visit to Assam, commencing on February 3. The visit aims to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for various development initiatives worth more than Rs 11,599 crore during a public programme in Guwahati, as announced by the Assam government.

The Prime Minister was welcomed at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and other party members.

PM Modi is set to address a mega public rally and unveil multiple projects during the visit, emphasizing the commitment to providing world-class amenities at pilgrimage sites. Among the key projects is the Maa Kamakhya Divya Pariyojana (Maa Kamakhya Access Corridor), sanctioned under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North Eastern Region (PM-DevINE) scheme. This initiative will enhance facilities for pilgrims visiting the Kamakhya temple.

Foundation stones will also be laid for road upgrade projects totalling over Rs. 3400 crores, impacting 43 roads and 38 bridges under the South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) Corridor Connectivity.

Additionally, the Prime Minister will inaugurate two 4-laning projects, from Dolabari to Jamuguri and Biswanath Chariali to Gohpur, which will improve connectivity to Itanagar and contribute to regional economic development.

In a nod to the region’s sports potential, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for sports infrastructure projects, including an international-standard sports stadium in Chandrapur and the upgrade of Nehru Stadium to a FIFA-standard football stadium.

Further, the visit includes the foundation stone laying for the development of infrastructure at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, along with a medical college in Karimganj, marking a significant step towards bolstering healthcare in the region.
