PM Modi will unveil 125-ft Bir Lachit Borphukan statue in March

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to unveil the imposing 125-foot statue of Bir Lachit Borphukan at Lahdoigarh, Holongapar in Jorhat during the first week of March this year. Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on February 15 the state government has extended an invitation to the Prime Minister to dedicate the remarkable statue of Bir Lachit and pay homage to his legacy.

During his proposed visit to Jorhat, Prime Minister Modi will also lay the foundation stone of the Sivasagar Medical College and Hospital and ceremoniously initiate the Griha Pravesh ceremony for 5.5 lakh homes constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana scheme for Assam.

CM Sarma personally supervised the preparations for these monumental events during his visit to Jorhat. He inspected the progress of the construction of the Lachit Moidam Memorial and Cultural Complex at Lahdoigarh, expressing satisfaction with the ongoing work. Himanta Biswa Sarma held discussions with the engineers of Ahluwalia Contract (India) Limited, the executing agency, urging them to expedite the completion of the statue’s finishing touches by the end of the month.

Furthermore, Sarma assessed the preparations at Meleng Meteli Pothar, the proposed venue for the Prime Minister’s meeting, ensuring all-round readiness. He emphasized the need for seamless public movement and adequate arrangements for drinking water and transportation for attendees. Sarma reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the success of the Prime Minister’s visit and the noble objectives associated with the unveiling of the Bir Lachit Borphukan statue, the foundation stone laying ceremony, and the distribution of housing to beneficiaries.

Ministers including Pijush Hazarika, Jayanta Mallabaruah, Ajanta Neog, Atul Bora, along with MPs and MLAs, were among the dignitaries present during CM Sarma’s inspection visit to Jorhat.
