In a startling incident on the Delhi-Meerut highway near Indirapuram, a journalist and senior editor of the Economics Times, Shantanu Nandan Sharma, fell victim to a unique modus operandi employed by a robbery gang. The incident occurred at approximately 10 pm on February 5 in front of Shipra Mall, Indirapuram.

Shantanu Nandan Sharma who hails from Assam wrote on social media platform X that a scooter abruptly stopped in front of his car, and the pillion rider approached him, claiming that his crutches had broken, even though Sharma’s car had not made contact with the scooter. To add urgency to the situation, the individual stated that he was differently-abled and a cancer patient, demanding Rs 3,000 as compensation.

Sharma, despite being certain that his car had not caused any damage, decided to avoid potential drama on the road and handed over Rs 1,100 from his purse.

The alleged differently-abled individual continued to cry loudly, emphasizing the financial setback he claimed to have suffered. Sharma extended his wishes for a speedy recovery as the individual’s companion removed the scooter, allowing him to leave the scene.

Upon reflection, Sharma strongly suspects this incident was part of a larger robbery gang’s operation along the highway near Indirapuram. He has brought attention to the incident, expressing concern that more victims may fall prey to this unique and deceptive strategy.

Commuters must exercise caution and be aware of such tactics criminals employ on the Delhi-Meerut highway. Authorities are urged to investigate this matter and enhance security measures to ensure the safety of travellers in the region. Commuters are advised to report any suspicious activity to the local police to prevent further incidents of this nature.
