In two separate cases, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) of 108 emergency ambulance services operating in Arunachal Pradesh, did successful deliveries inside the ambulances in Borduria of Tirap and Bordumsa of Changlang district, giving a new lease of life to both patients and their babies.

Sources in Arunachal Pradesh NHM said on March 19 that in the first incident on March 18, the Borduria location 108 ambulance had to attend a referred case of anemic pregnancy from Primary Health Centre (PHC), Borduria to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh. While on the way to the hospital, the patient started having severe labor pain and the EMT, Liamhun Tonrang started to midwife and successfully delivered a baby boy inside the ambulance. Later, they were admitted to AMC Dibrugarh for further treatment. Both the mother and the baby were doing fine and healthy.

In the second incident, in the wee hours of March 19, the Bordumsa location ambulance received a call for pregnant emergency case from Kherempani village to be taken to CHC Bordumsa. While on the way to the hospital due to severe labor pain the EMT, Luhwan Kamba successfully delivered a healthy baby girl inside the ambulance. Later, the mother and the baby were admitted to CHC Bordumsa.

Both the EMTs were praised for their success and dedication towards their duties.

This is the fifth case of successful deliveries inside the ambulance by Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) of 108 free ambulance services this year, taking the count to 59 successful deliveries by EMTs either at scene or inside the ambulance since the launch of 108 emergency ambulance services in Arunachal Pradesh in June 2021, sources added.
