The High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination conducted by Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BoSEM) started on March 15 amid unrest.

The examination commenced amid the 48-hour bandh called by Federation of Civil Society Organizations (FOCS) along with 12 other organisations which began from March 14 midnight.

A total of 37,715 candidates are appearing in the exam that is being conducted in 154 centres across the state. Of this total, 63 centres are located in the hill districts of Manipur.

On the first day of the exam, two candidates who were found appearing the exam impersonating were expelled from a centre at Samurou in Imphal West district, an official statement of the BoSEM said.

To appear for the exam, most of the students in the valley reached their respective exam centres much ahead of the commencement of the exam, that is, 9 am in the backdrop of confusion over the imposition of the 48-hour bandh by various organisations under the aegis of the FOCS.

The bandh, however, did not cause any disturbance in the conduct of the exam. So far, there was no report of any candidate missing the exam because of the bandh.

Officials on duty at various exam centres said that earlier there were apprehensions of candidates missing the exam because of the bandh. However, they found no candidate missed the exam.
