Arunachal gets its first AI based smart parking facility

Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu inaugurated a cutting-edge, fully automated AI-based smart parking system at the premises of Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (TRIHMS), Naharlagun on March 10. This innovative parking solution, one of the firsts in the country, significantly enhances the capacity to accommodate 72 vehicles across 4 towers, addressing the longstanding parking challenges in Itanagar, particularly around TRIHMS, according to officials.

Utilizing Korean technology, the AI-based smart parking system requires minimal space for construction, employing prefabricated equipment. CM Khandu emphasized the importance of technological interventions in improving urban living standards, stating that this initiative marks the beginning of a technology-driven approach. He expressed optimism that similar technology could be deployed in other parts of the Capital Complex to alleviate parking concerns.

Additionally, Pema Khandu announced the imminent inauguration of two completed parking lots – one at the ESS sector and another at Ganga – by the UD department to further address parking challenges.

Sung Jin Cho, the global technical officer of Daemyung Crusher Co Ltd, provided insights into the technology’s functionality and its time-saving benefits. He highlighted the convenience of parking vehicles within a limited space and mentioned similar projects in Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.

The groundbreaking project, executed by Itanagar Smart City Development Corporation Ltd, required an estimated investment of Rs 27 crore. An agreement will be established between the company and TRIHMS for parking fee collection, with the company responsible for maintaining the parking lots during the liability period, officials confirmed.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of UD, Planning & ULB minister Kamlung Mosang, health and family welfare minister Alo Libang, as well as MLAs Techi Kaso and Laisam Simai, Itanagar mayor Tamme Phassang, and officials from various departments, TRIHMS, Itanagar Smart City Development Corporation Ltd, and the executing agency.
