Senior leader of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee and Barpeta Lok Sabha Congress MP, Abdul Khaleque, withdrew his resignation from the Indian National Congress on March 21 after meeting with former Congress president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi.
Khaleque had resigned on March 15 from the Congress party after being excluded from the party’s list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections.
He sent his resignation letter to All India Congress Committee president Mallikarjun Kharge. In his resignation letter to the party’s national president, Abdul Khaleque raised certain allegations against state Congress president Bhupen Bora and the party general secretary in charge of Assam, Jitendra Singh.
After withdrawing his resignation, Khaleque stated to the media: “I am glad that the center leadership of the party reached out to me, because of which I could have a fruitful discussion with KC Venugopal and Sonia Gandhi.”
“As a sitting Lok Sabha member and two-time MLA, I understand the situation in the country. It is the duty and responsibility of every democratic and progressive person to strengthen the democratic forces,” he added.
“Strengthening Congress is the need of the hour; hence, I withdraw my resignation and wish to work under your and Rahul Gandhi’s able leadership,” he added.
