ANI Photo | Assam: Income tax department deploys teams to curb black money in Lok Sabha polls

The Investigation Directorate of the Income Tax Department, North East Region, has established a control room cum complaint monitoring cell in Guwahati to oversee the monitoring efforts. This control room will operate 24/7 to ensure continuous vigilance.

To bolster these efforts, Rapid Action Teams (RAT), District Monitoring Teams in every district of the state, and Air Intelligence Units (AIU) at all state airports have been deployed. Their primary objective is to combat the use of black money in the electoral process effectively.

The monitoring teams have been specifically constituted to uphold the principles of free, fair, and transparent elections. They will monitor the movement of unaccounted cash and its potential role in influencing the election process, adhering to guidelines and mandates issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) as necessary.

Individuals with complaints or information regarding cash or other items suspected of being used for voter bribery are encouraged to contact the Control Room through a toll-free number or WhatsApp. Complaints can be lodged via the toll-free number 1800 345 3596 or WhatsApp at 9531460373.

In anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, a team from the Election Commission of India has arrived in Guwahati, Assam. Their agenda includes holding meetings with officials and political parties to evaluate the security arrangements within the state.

Earlier, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the state government has requested the Election Commission of India to schedule the elections in Assam before the Bohag Bihu or Rongali Bihu celebrations. The Lok Sabha polls are slated to take place in April-May this year.
