Assam photo journalists association forms new committee

The Assam Photo Journalists Association (APJA) conducted its general assembly at the Guwahati Press Club on March 16. In a move to bolster the support system for photojournalists across various media outlets in Assam, the meeting culminated in the formation of a new central committee.

APJA announced the appointment of senior photojournalist Chinmoy Roy as the chief advisor. Alongside him, a team of photojournalists, including Utpal Barua, Rituraj Konwar, Anupam Nath, Rajiv Bhattacharya, Samarendra Sharma and S Lal Singh will serve as advisors, bringing a wealth of experience to the table.

The association has entrusted Dhaniram Kalita with the pivotal role of president, while Biju Boro and Pitambar Newar will support the leadership as vice presidents. The position of secretary will be held by Reba Kumar Borah, with Gunmani Sharma stepping in as joint secretary. Overseeing financial matters, Dibyajyoti Das Rabha has been appointed as the treasurer.

The committee is further strengthened by a diverse group of executive members, including Mahesh Chaudhary, Abdul Sajid, Shubhamoy Bhattacharjee, Manas Paran, Surajit Sharma, Rupjyoti Sharma, Dashrath Deka, Hafiz Ahmed, Indrajit Das, and Anwar Hussain, all of whom have been nominated to bring their unique perspectives and expertise to the organization.

With the formation of a robust 32-member committee, APJA is poised to embark on a new chapter aimed at enhancing the welfare and professional development of photojournalists in Assam.

The newly formed committee has issued a call to action for photojournalists throughout Assam, encouraging them to join the association and contribute to its mission.
