Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu

Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu on March 22 filed his nomination papers from Mukto assembly constituency for the upcoming Arunachal assembly polls.

While filing his nominations from Mukto in Tawang district, Pema Khandu was accompanied by the chairman of BJP’s election campaign committee for Arunachal West, home minister Bamang Felix, and agriculture minister Tage Taki, while other leaders and supporters waited outside the office of additional deputy commissioner at Jang.

Pema Khandu has been representing Mukto constituency since 2011, following the demise of his father and former chief minister Dorjee Khandu in a helicopter crash near Luguthang in Tawang district in April 2011.

Sharing his feelings after filing his papers, Pema Khandu wrote on micro-blogging site X: “A special day as I filed my nomination paper as a candidate for the 3-Mukto (ST) assembly constituency. I am humbled by the overwhelming support and encouragement from all corners. I am committed to working tirelessly for the welfare and progress of every citizen, ensuring that their voices are heard and their needs are met.”

He later attended a public meeting and interacted with the local leaders and others. “I am happy to be among well-wishers, friends, and family members. I had an interaction today with public leaders and well-wishers at Jang after filing my nomination for the upcoming assembly election,” the CM said in another post.

Arunachal Pradesh is set to vote for its 60-member assembly simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections in a single phase on April 19. The results of the assembly polls would be declared on June 2, two days ahead of the vote counting for the parliamentary polls.
