Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a series of development projects worth Rs 17,500 crore in Assam on March 9, emphasizing the government’s commitment to bolstering infrastructure and welfare initiatives in the region. The projects, spanning across sectors such as health, oil and gas, railway, and housing, were inaugurated by the prime minister during a ceremony held in Jorhat.

Among the key projects inaugurated by PM Modi were initiatives under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North Eastern Region (PM-DevINE) scheme, including the establishment of a Medical College and Hospital in Sivasagar and a Hemato-Lymphoid Centre in Guwahati. Additionally, he laid the foundation stones for the capacity expansions of the Digboi Refinery and Guwahati Refinery, along with other crucial infrastructure projects.

In a significant move towards healthcare infrastructure, PM Modi inaugurated a new medical college and hospital in Tinsukia, further enhancing the healthcare facilities in the region. He also inaugurated the Barauni-Guwahati Pipeline, aimed at strengthening the oil and gas sector with an investment of approximately Rs 3,992 crore. Furthermore, the Prime Minister inaugurated around 5.5 lakh homes under the PM Awas Yojana-Gramin, aimed at providing affordable housing to rural communities.

Highlighting the importance of connectivity, PM Modi inaugurated railway projects worth over Rs 1,300 crore in Assam. These projects include the Dhupdhara-Chhaygaon section and the New Bongaigaon-Sorbhog section, contributing to the expansion and modernization of the railway network in the state.

During a public address in Meleng Meteli Pothar, Jorhat, PM Modi underscored the significance of Northeast’s development in realizing the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’. He accused the Congress of neglecting the region for decades, asserting that the double-engine government’s focus on heritage and development has propelled growth in the region.

Narendra Modi also criticized the Congress government’s conservation strategies, alleging that their negligence led to rampant poaching in the Kaziranga National Park. He highlighted the success of the NDA government’s policies, which resulted in a significant reduction in poaching incidents, safeguarding the rich biodiversity of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The inauguration of these projects reflects the government’s commitment to fostering inclusive growth and prosperity in Assam and the Northeast region as a whole, reaffirming the vision of building a robust and self-reliant India.
