Mizoram has one of the highest prevalence of HIV/AIDS in the country with 23.2 out of every 1,000 people being infected with the virus, state health and family welfare minister Lalrinpuii informed the state assembly on March 8.

In a written reply to a question from MLA K Beichhua of the BJP, Lalrinpuii said as the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) does not give out information on the state of HIV/AIDS, except for HIV estimation, it is not possible to have data on positivity rates of other states.

“However, as per the report of the HIV estimation in 2023, Mizoram has the highest adult prevalence (among the 15 to 49 age group) which is 2.32 per cent,” she said.
