C Lalrosanga

Lok Sabha MP from Mizoram, C Lalrosanga, on March 11 accused the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre of preventing him from raising issues like Manipur crisis in the parliament and announced that he would not contest the coming general election.

Addressing MNF workers at the party headquarters ‘Hnam Run’ in Aizawl, Lalrosanga shared his experience of encountering numerous challenges within parliament, despite his affiliation with the Mizo National Front (MNF), a constituent of the BJP-led NDA at the centre.

He highlighted how the NDA government pushed through several bills in parliament during the current term.

“The NDA government prevented me from addressing parliament on the Manipur issue, and my queries went unanswered by the central government, particularly the ministry of home affairs, regarding the unrest in neighboring Manipur,” he lamented, mentioning his exclusion from discussions on the Manipur issue during NDA meetings.

Denied a platform to voice his concerns within parliament and other forums, Lalrosanga resorted to engaging with the media. He noted that the sittings of the 17th Lok Sabha were minimal since 1950, with both Houses repeatedly adjourned due to intermittent disruptions.

In a veiled appeal against supporting the BJP in the upcoming parliamentary elections, Lalrosanga criticised the saffron party-led NDA government for its detrimental impact on the nation, especially minority communities, through a series of legislations and its handling of the Manipur issue.

“We must adopt a new perspective while exercising our voting rights in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections,” he urged, expressing concerns about the central government’s efforts to implement the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) before the election announcement, by formulating the rules.

Lalrosanga declared his decision not to contest the upcoming parliamentary polls, stating: “I urge party leaders to identify an alternative candidate who can serve better.”
