Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his continued commitment towards the development of the Northeast region, Union Cabinet minister Sarbananda Sonowal on March 9 said that the region is moving ahead towards becoming an Atmanirbhar society, under the visionary leadership of the prime minister.
Modi inaugurated and laid foundation stone for multiple development projects worth more than Rs 17,500 crore in Jorhat on March 9. The development projects of today encompass the sectors of health, oil and gas, rail and housing.
Speaking about Modi’s multiple initiatives, Sarbananda Sonowal said: “Lachit Borphukan is a symbol of indomitable bravery, courage, wisdom and patriotism. As PM Narendra Modiji unveiled the 125-foot tall statue of Lachit Borphukan at Hollongapar in Jorhat, it marks as a red letter day for the people of Assam to take pride in and celebrate the ethos of Lachit Borphukan for many generations to come. Today also marks the beginning of a new age of progress and development with the launch of multiple initiatives by PM Modi ji. Blessed by the Mother Nature, Assam possesses tremendous potential to rev up the growth engine for the entire region. As we move ahead towards becoming an Atmanirbhar society, under the visionary leadership of prime minister Shri Narendra Modiji, the sustained effort put by Modi ji to propel has set the platform towards becoming world’s third largest economy by 2030. We must all hedge our efforts and energy to make our country become Viksit Bharat, a vision of Modi ji.”
Speaking about Modi’s historic visit to the Kaziranga National Park, Sonowal added: “We are very happy that Modiji visited the pride of Assam, Kaziranga, today where he enjoyed an elephant safari amid the beautiful flora and fauna of the world heritage site reserve. I am confident that the people from across the world will visit the Kaziranga as the tourism in the state is set to receive a boost with the lovely endorsement by Modi ji about the pride of every Asomiya. Modiji also relished the mesmerising sight of Assam’s picturesque tea garden and acknowledged the hard work put in by our tea community towards enhancing the prestige of Assam and the cause of nation building.”
The prime minister laid the foundation stone for several projects under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North Eastern Region (PM-DevINE) scheme including the medical college & hospital at Sivasagar and a hemato-lymphoid center in Guwahati. He also laid the foundation stone for important projects in the oil and gas sector including the capacity expansion of Digboi Refinery and Guwahati Refinery along with other facilities.
He also inaugurated important projects like new medical medical college and hospital at Tinsukia; and 718-km-long Barauni – Guwahati Pipeline (part of Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga Project).
