Assam’s tourism minister Jayanta Malla Baruah on March 11 announced defence minister Rajnath Singh is set to visit the state on March 14. This visit coincides closely with the upcoming Lok Sabha elections expected to take place in April-May.

During his visit, the defence minister is scheduled to address two rallies in the state. Baruah stated, “He will address two rallies in Barpeta and Kokrajhar. Our party workers are currently engaged in organizing meetings for the defence minister. Assam BJP has formed clusters in 14 Lok Sabha constituencies of the state. Union ministers and BJP’s central leadership will visit each cluster.”

“On March 14, Rajnath Singh will be visiting the state for a political event… All necessary preparations are underway for the visit,” he added.

Baruah also emphasized that Assam BJP aims to secure victory in all 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state. “Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma mentioned that we (NDA) would secure 11.5 seats in the state in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. It may go up to 12. However, we are striving to win all 14 seats,” the Assam Minister stated.

BJP is slated to contest in 11 out of 14 seats, while its ally parties AGP will contest in Barpeta and Dhubri seats, and UPPL in the Kokrajhar seat.

Previously, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is facing his third Lok Sabha election, made a two-day visit to the BJP-ruled state.

The Lok Sabha polls are scheduled to be held in April-May this year.
