Meghalaya is gearing up to enchant visitors with its verdant strawberry fields during the upcoming ‘Strawberry Festival’ slated from April 5 to April 13, aligning with the state’s endeavours to boost agro-tourism.

This festival is a collaborative effort between the departments of tourism, agriculture, and farmers’ welfare. The state’s horticulture directorate has spearheaded extensive strawberry plantations under various central and state schemes.

According to an official statement, the picturesque villages of Syntung and Nohron in East Khasi Hills, Umktieh and Sohliya in Ri Bhoi, and Baladinggre, Darechikgre, and Durakantragre in West Garo Hills will host the Strawberry Festival, marking the onset of the strawberry harvest season.

Apart from relishing the opportunity to pick fresh strawberries at the farms, festival-goers can indulge in wine tasting, jam-making sessions, and luxurious camping experiences amidst the strawberry fields, and enjoy live music and cultural performances. Furthermore, strawberry saplings will be available for purchase.

“The festival aims to bolster local business hubs in rural areas while showcasing the state’s potential for agro-tourism,” emphasized the statement, highlighting the significance of promoting rural entrepreneurship and leveraging Meghalaya’s agricultural bounty to attract tourists.
