Armed miscreants opened fire at Assam Rifles vehicles in Tinsukia’s Namdang along the Changlang-Margherita road on April 16 morning.

Reports said that unidentified gunmen opened fire at the patrol vehicle of Assam Rifles moving from Changlang in Arunachal Pradesh towards Margherita in Assam.

“A vehicle mounted patrol of three vehicles of Assam Rifles moving from Changlang towards Margherita was ambushed by unknown personnel near Namdang at around 8:30 am on April 16,” a defence statement said.

“The troops retaliated and thwarted the ambush. In the process a person sustained gun-shot wound. The individual has been evacuated to Military Hospital in Jorhat and his condition is stable. Further details will follow,” the statement further added.

Reports said that the Assam Rifles team also retaliated but details of injury or casualty are not known yet. Senior police officials have reached the spot.
