The District Magistrate (DM) of Bihar’s Patna on Tuesday ordered all private and government schools in the district to suspend academic activities for several hours during the daytime from May 1 concerning the prevalent heatwave conditions in the region.
As per the order, schools will be required to refrain from arranging academic activities between 10:30 am and 04:00 pm for students of Class X and below. For classes 11 and 12, academic activities shall not take place from 11:30 am to 04:00 pm, DM Shirsat Kapil Ashok said in his order.
The order will remain in effect till May 8.
A day ahead of this, neighbouring Jharkhand also suspended classes up to grade 8 in all government and private schools amid heat wave-like conditions prevailing across the state.
As per the officials, classes up to grade 8 will remain suspended until further notice. An order by the secretary of the school education and literacy department, Uma Shankar Singh, said, “Classes from kindergarten to grade 8 are suspended in all categories of schools, including government, private, aided, and unaided, until further notice”.
This decision aims to protect students from the adverse effects of extreme weather conditions
