The Delhi government-run BR Ambedkar University will provide one seat per course for orphan children in the upcoming academic year, announced Vice-Chancellor Anu Singh Lather on Tuesday.
The announcement was made during the launch of the admission brochure for undergraduate and postgraduate admissions for the academic year 2024-25.
“From this time onwards, a provision for the reservation of one seat under the orphan quota has also been made in each programme. The entire fee will be waived for students taking admission under this category,” said Lather.
Regarding other reservations in admissions, the Vice-Chancellor informed that provisions are available for the reservation of one seat each under the Sports and Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) quota in each program.
Additionally, reservations have been made for defence personnel, Kashmiri displaced, PWD, and single girl child under the supernumerary quota.
The university offers admission to 18 undergraduate and 27 postgraduate programs in the academic session. Admissions will be conducted through CUET.
In the upcoming academic session, admissions will be made for a total of 2595 seats across all these programs, with 1141 seats for undergraduate and 1454 seats for postgraduate programs.
As AUD is a Delhi state university, 85 per cent of the seats are reserved for students who have studied in Delhi, while students from outside Delhi can also be admitted on the remaining 15 per cent of the seats.
This time, around 200 universities are on the CUET portal. Despite being a state university, AUD has been ranked seventh among the top ten universities across the country in NTA CUET.
Vice-Chancellor Lather further conveyed that about four lakh students have chosen to apply for AUD in PG and UG on the CUET portal, with 309,237 students for UG and 89,773 students for PG showing interest.
Admissions for PhD programs (23 in total) will also be conducted in June, based on CUET.
The university has also introduced a new MA program in public policy and governance for the upcoming academic year, with 60 seats available.
“A new MA program in Public Policy and Governance has been launched at Dr BR Ambedkar University, Delhi (AUD),” the Vice-Chancellor said.
Vice Chancellor Lather said that from this session, admissions for competency enhancement courses will also be offered.
A total of 148 subjects have been selected, with provision for admission in 78 courses this semester.
In response to a question, the Vice Chancellor said that the fee for these courses will be Rs 8,000 per course per semester, with no age limit. “Any working professional or student can join these courses as per their interests,” she said.
Furthermore, the university has instituted an AUD-MRF scheme for research scholars to promote research culture, offering 100 AUD MRFs in PhD.
“Under this, a provision has been made by the university to give an allowance equal to the UGC JRF per month to the merit holders. Apart from JRF in AUD, researchers without NET/JRF are also given an allowance of Rs 16,000 per month,” she said.
“This year, 33 students have been awarded PhD degrees. The university is determined to promote research,” she added
