Assam’s tourism minister Jayanta Malla Baruah disclosed Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to visit the state on April 17 to address a rally in Nalbari in preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Additionally, union home minister Amit Shah will embark on a two-day visit to Assam on April 7-8, during which he plans to address three rallies in Hojai, Lakhimpur, and Gohpur.

Baruah confirmed it on April 4 that the schedules for both Narendra Modi and Amit Shah were fixed and unlikely to change. He expressed hope that other senior party leaders would also visit Assam, emphasizing the state’s readiness for the elections. The goal, he reiterated, was to secure a third consecutive term for Narendra Modi as Prime Minister, aiming to secure at least 13 Lok Sabha seats from Assam.

Polling for the 14 seats in Assam will be conducted in three phases: April 19, April 26, and May 7. The nationwide elections for 543 Lok Sabha seats will span seven phases, commencing on April 19, with nearly 96.8 crore eligible voters across over 12 lakh polling stations. Vote counting is scheduled for June 4.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won nine seats in Assam, with the Congress securing three and the All India United Democratic Front (AIDUF) one. The remaining seat was claimed by an Independent candidate. BJP secured the majority vote share at 36.4%, with the Congress receiving 35.8% of the total votes polled.

Recently, PM Modi headlined a campaign event in Bihar’s Jamui, represented by NDA ally Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas)’s Chirag Paswan. He criticized the INDIA bloc, accusing the Congress and RJD of hindering the country’s development. Modi emphasized the strides made in the last decade under the NDA, portraying them as a mere prelude to what could be achieved with a third term, highlighting India’s growing strength on the global stage.
