During a public rally in Odisha’s Malkangiri, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the importance of supporting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. He stated that achieving 400 seats in the Lok Sabha is crucial to prevent the Congress party from rebuilding the Babri Masjid. Sarma underscored this point in a tweet, accompanied by a clip of his speech, asserting, “We need 400 seats to safeguard our temples and ensure the Congress cannot rebuild the Babri Masjid. Let’s give Modi ji the support he needs to exceed 400 seats and become PM again.”

In his address, Himanta Biswa Sarma also highlighted the shift in the Congress party’s stance towards the BJP’s timeline for constructing the Ram Mandir. “Previously, the Congress constantly questioned us about the construction date of the Ram Temple. Now, they’ve ceased asking. They understand our commitment to not just the Ram Temple but to liberating all temples across India. Our agenda extends beyond the Ram Temple,” Sarma remarked.

Sarma expressed confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, predicting his third term as PM after the Lok Sabha election results on June 4. He further projected that the BJP would form the government in Odisha by June 10. Sarma projected optimistic outcomes for the BJP in both Lok Sabha and Assembly polls, anticipating 18 to 20 seats in the Lok Sabha and a strong showing in the Vidhan Sabha.

Dismissing the possibility of an alliance with the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Sarma clarified that he had previously hinted at no such collaboration during his last visit to the state. He praised the BJP’s candidates in Odisha, describing them as devoted followers of PM Modi and asserted that the BJP would secure victory in the state.

Himanta Biswa Sarma noted the positive response from the people of Odisha towards the BJP’s manifesto, indicating favourable prospects for the party in the upcoming elections.

The state of Odisha is scheduled to conduct Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in four phases from May 13 to June 1, with vote counting set for June 4. In the 2019 elections, the BJD emerged victorious in both Assembly and Lok Sabha polls, with the BJP and Congress securing notable but fewer seats.
