Unexploded military tank artillery shell found in Shillong

An unexploded military tank artillery shell of length 13 inches and circumference of 12 inches (3.5-inch diameter) was found at Mawlynrei Nonglum, Shillong, on May 8 while digging for construction work.

The land where it was found is privately owned.

“The shell has been placed into safe custody and is being examined by the bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) of Meghalaya police,” East Khasi Hills district SP Rituraj Ravi said.

“An investigation is being done to identify the origins of the shell,” he said while informing that further necessary action to safely dispose of the shell was under progress.
