Prasiddha Jyoti Mudoi

An Assam government employee is battling for life after he was looted and brutally attacked by miscreants while he took a lift from Khanapara in Guwahati to his hometown Nagaon on April 27 night.

PWD employee Prasiddha Jyoti Mudoi had to visit his home in Nagaon to attend to his ailing father on April 27 when he had to take a lift from a private car at Khanapara because of a lack of public transport.

On April 28, Mudoi was rescued by Khetri police on the roadside in an unconscious state.

At present, Mudoi is admitted to the GNRC in critical condition. Doctors attending Mudoi said that he sustained severe internal injuries in his skull.

“He is under medication and will only be operated on if the situation improves. We have to wait and see,” said a doctor.

Narrating the saga Mudoi’s sister Prarthana said: “He called our mother at 6:30 pm (on April 27) saying he will reach Nagaon by 10 pm. As we could not reach his number till late at night, we contacted the police. Later on April 28, police informed us that he was found lying heavily injured near the highway at Khetri. He is now critical and admitted at ICU of GNRC Hospitals, Dispur.”

The family members have lodged an FIR at Khetri police station. Though police are investigating the case, nothing concrete has been found so far.

Lack of public transport due to PM visit:

This is not the lone similar incident during the last couple of days. Police said that a similar incident was also reported on the same day. In that incident, a person who took a lift from Khanapara in a small car was drugged on the way and was looted.

Commuters had to face a lot of difficulties due to the lack of public transportation because of the PM visit to Assam. Most of the buses were requisitioned to ferry people to the venues.
