A former judge of Gauhati High Court who hails from Assam, was among the four new judges appointed by the President to the Supreme Court.

Assam-born Justice Hrishikesh Roy, who is currently serving as the Chief Justice of Kerala High Court was elevated to the Supreme Court along with three other judges: Justice Krishna Murari, Justice SR Bhat and Justice V Ramasubramanian.

Hrishikesh Roy, who was born on February 1, 1960, is a former judge of Gauhati High Court. Roy has been serving as the acting Chief Justice of Kerala High Court since May 30, 2018 following his transfer from Guwahati High Court.

Roy did his graduation in law from Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi in 1982. Roy’s term as a judge of the apex court will end on February 1, 2025.

During his stay in Assam, before being a judge, Roy served as a senior government advocate for the Arunachal Pradesh government.
