COVID-19 warriors: Guwahati Foodie donates daily ration for nearly 200 families

Popular Facebook group, Guwahati Foodie, has come forward to help around 200 families with necessary food items as the nationwide lockdown to contain COVID-19 continues.

On April 17, members of the group distributed packets of rice, dal, mustard oil, soap, salt and milk to 196 needy families in the Azara circle of Kamrup Metro district.

“Thanks to the members who helped us raise some money for the cause, we procured the necessary ration and had them packed in small packets on April 16. The Kamrup Metro district administration helped us identify needy families in Azara circle and we went there on April 17,” said Sisir Kumar, the admin of the group. He thanked the district administration and Circle Office, Azara for identifying the needy people and help them provide relief.

He added that several members donated wholeheartedly, because of which the drive was possible. “I must thank every member for their donation. This is just the beginning. I wish to continue the campaign as there are many vulnerable people who need our help,” he said.

Guwahati-based Purabi Dairy provided the necessary milk packets which were donated to the needy.

Sisir added that Guwahati Foodie will continue the donation drive and hopes to go out for another round of outreach soon. “Some battles cannot be fought with an empty stomach. So, we request you to come forward to help the needy…This will be a long battle,” he said.
