A powerful IED blast rocked Manipur’s capital city of Imphal on November 18 morning.

The blast occurred at around 4:30 am in front of a shop at Kairang area in Imphal East district. There was no report of any casualty in the incident.

Following the blast, police personnel led by senior officials rushed to the spot.

A top officer of Imphal East district police said that, the blast took place in front of a shop owned by Mohamad Tolen at Kairang area.

“There is no report of any human casualty in the incident. Security has been beefed up in the area and search operation is on to nab the culprit,” the top police officer said.

No organization has yet claimed responsibility for the detonation.

Security forces are in high alert in Manipur after militants ambushed a convoy of Assam Rifles in Churachandpur district along Indo-Myanmar border on November 13. In the incident, five Assam Rifles personnel including an Assam Rifles colonel, his wife and their 8-year-old son were killed.
