NorthEast United FC qualify for play-offs as Jamshedpur draw a blank in Chennai

NorthEast United FC qualified for the play-offs of the Indian Super League 2018-19 season after Jamshedpur FC played a goalless draw against Chennaiyin FC on Saturday. Jamshedpur FC’s hopes of reaching the play-offs went up in smoke after the goalless draw against bottom-placed Chennaiyin FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Chennai.

The result sees NorthEast United FC clinch a spot in the top four for the first time in ISL history while Jamshedpur remain fifth and four points behind them.

This is turning out to be the best season for the Highlanders who never made to the play-offs of the Indian Super League earlier. Eelco Schattorie’s team had a dream run this season with just 3 loss in 17 matches.

NorthEast United FC will play their last league game of the season against Kerala Blasters on March 1.

On Saturday, Jamshedpur FC looked toothless in attack and could not get a win that would have kept them in the running for a spot in the top four. The closest they came to getting it was late in the game when second-half substitute Michael Soosairaj turned in a cross from an offside position.
