Media personnel coming to Assam from outside on duty will not be sent to mandatory quarantine, state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in Guwahati on May 31.

He said, “Reporters from other parts coming to Assam for news coverage and official work will not be put into mandatory quarantine, as is the norm for people entering the state.”

He added, “The media personnel will have to submit a report of testing negative for COVID-19 for the exemption.”

Earlier, the state government had exempted certain categories of people, including those returning the same day and government officials on duty, from being kept in mandatory quarantine for 14 days.

Altogether 1272 COVID-19 positive cases have been detected in the state so far, of which 185 patients have recovered and four others have died so far.
