Three African nationals were arrested by Meghalaya Police for not possessing valid travel documents, police said on July 3.
A police team intercepted a tourist vehicle on July 2 on NH-6 along Ummulong and detected six African nationals.
The six footballers were proceeding toward the East Jaintia Hills district for participating in a football tournament in Mosiang Lamare village, district police chief Bikram D Sangma said.
Three of the six African nationals – two from Ghana and one from Nigeria – possessed valid travel documents and were released, Sangma said.
The other three – one each from Guinea, Libera and Mozambique – failed to produce valid travel documents, the police officer said.
Sangma said a case has been registered against them under the Foreigners Act and an investigation is on.
