The 15th edition of Adda Short Film Festival, the first-ever open air film festival in Northeast India, will start from December 29 at Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio premises.

The festival was initiated by a group of film enthusiasts from Guwahati in 2003.

“We are extremely glad to have announced the date for our 15th edition. At least 20 award winning short films from across the globe, besides films made by the local filmmakers, will be screened during the two-day festival. We will have competition section, invites, global package and also another special category on the Adda achievers,” said Amardeep Gogoi, one of the organizers.

The film festival has been a vital platform for independent filmmakers of Assam, which includes Rima Das of Village Rockstars fame, among others.

Besides Rima, other filmmakers who have been able to draw the attention are Deep Choudhury who won the ‘Best Debut Film of a Director’ award for Alifa in 2017, Jaicheng Jai Dohutia whose Haanduk also won a National Award and Suraj Duarah who won National Award for his debut work Orong.

Apart from them, Jhulan Krishna Mahanta and Kangkan Deka too have proved their work after starting their journey through Adda Film Festival in their initial days.

“We are proud of that. We have been able to create a culture of watching good films and many youngsters had joined hands with us to be a part of the journey. Now they have excelled in the world of filmmaking,” Gogoi added.

Gogoi said that they will also have a special segment which will screen the films made by these achievers. “Rima and Deep – both were part of Adda Film Festival in 2009 with their short films,” Gogoi said.

“It has been a major boost for many youngsters to make films seriously. I too have a very fond memory with Adda Film Festival when my film ‘I am A Poet’ won the best film award in 2009. It gave me the confidence,” said Deep Choudhury who was widely appreciated for his film Alifa.

‘Chiaroscuro’ by author and film researcher Parthajit Baruah will be the inaugural film this year at the Adda Film Festival.
