A clash between Indian and Chinese soldiers took place at India-China border in North Sikkim, in the early hours on May 10.

Reports said that a number of Chinese and Indian soldiers have suffered injuries.

Confirming the incident, Defence PRO at Guwahati said that such “temporary incidents” do occur as the “boundaries are not resolved”. “Temporary and short duration face-off between border guarding troops do occur as boundaries are not resolved. Incident of face-off as referred to in the article (certain news) did take place. Aggressive behaviour by the two sides resulted in minor injuries to troops. The two sides disengaged after dialogue and interaction at local level,” said a statement.

“Troops resolve such issues mutually as per established protocols,” the statement added.

News agency UNI, quoting sources, said that the confrontation took place near Nakula sector in North Sikkim. “Four Indian soldiers and seven Chinese soldiers have suffered injuries,” the report said.

It is to be noted that the soldiers on both the sides happened to be maintaining cordial relations in the past, celebrating Indian and Chinese National Days, Republic Day and special festivals and even exchanged sweets.
