As many as 17 districts in Assam continued to reel under floods despite the overall situation improving considerably on July 5.
No new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.
The flood situation in Assam, where 37 people have already died in the deluge, improved considerably on July 5 as water levels of all major rivers continued to recede.
A statement by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority said that 17 districts are still affected; impacting 6.8 lakh people of whom 4,852 were taking shelters in 53 relief camps. On July 3, over 13 lakh people in 20 districts of the state were affected by the deluge.
However, the Brahmaputra is still flowing above the danger level at Neematighat in Jorhat and in Dhubri. The Jia Bharali and the Kopili are flowing above the danger marks in Sonitpur and Nagaon respectively.
Barpeta district is still the worst-hit with over 3.98 lakh people impacted, followed by South Salmara with 87,044 lakh people, Goalpara with more than 78,000 persons and Dhemaji with more than 28,000 people, the ASDMA bulleting on July 5 said.
Over 210 people have been evacuated by the locals, circle offices and SDRF in the last 24 hour.
The deluge has killed 25 animals in the Kaziranga National Park, submerging 41 of the 223 camps, according to the bulletin.
Embankments, roads, bridges, culverts and many other infrastructures have been damaged at various places in the affected districts.
