A commanding officer (CO) of Assam Rifles, his wife and son and four jawans were killed and several others injured after suspected militants ambushed convoy of Assam Rifles in Manipur’s Churachandpur district on November 13.

The incident took place at S Sehken village near Behiang in Churachandpur district along Indo-Myanmar border at around 10 am on November 13.

An official of Assam Rifles based in Imphal said that, suspected armed militants had attacked the convoy of 46 Assam Rifles while the convoy was passing through the area.

The incident spot is close to Indo-Myanmar border pillar number 43.

Four other jawans were also injured in the militant attack and they were first evacuated at Behiang primary health centre and later to Leimakhong.

The militants attacked the convoy when the Colonel of the 46 Battalion of the Assam Rifles was going to supervise a civic action programme in the Churachandpur, bordering Myanmar.

So far, no militant organisation has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The police and security forces have launched a massive search operation to nab the militants.
