On May 29, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off Assam’s first Vande Bharat Express, which will connect Guwahati in Assam with Jalpaiguri in West Bengal. During the event, the Prime Minister also dedicated the newly electrified sections of New Bongaigaon-Dudhnoi-Mendipather and Guwahati-Chaparmukh to the nation. Additionally, he inaugurated the new DEMU/MEMU shed at Lumding.

The Vande Bharat Express is a premium semi-high-speed train that offers fully air-conditioned service and features an aesthetically designed and well-equipped interior.

It will cover a distance of 411 km between Guwahati and New Jalpaiguri in just 5 hours and 30 minutes, significantly reducing the current shortest journey time provided by other trains. This new service will operate six days a week, providing a comfortable and speedy travel experience for passengers from the northeast region.

The Vande Bharat Express is expected to greatly benefit various groups, including IT professionals, business people, students, and tourists. It represents the Indian Railways’ ambitious plan to enhance the standards and speed of rail travel in the country.
