Recognizing their bravery and selflessness in mitigating human-wildlife conflict, the principal chief conservator of forests, wildlife and chief wildlife warden, Assam, has announced a formal reward of Rs1 lakh each for their exceptional dedication.

The leopard, which had strayed into the GS Colony of the Fatasil Ambari area, posed a potential threat to both human life and property. The zoo’s rescue team swiftly responded to the situation, successfully tranquillizing and capturing the animal. However, two team members were injured during the operation.

Both individuals received prompt medical attention at GMCH and are now on the road to recovery.

“Their actions exemplified the core values of the Assam State Zoo – prioritizing the well-being of both wildlife and humans,” said a zoo official. “Their courage and dedication deserve the highest praise, and we are extremely grateful for their service.”

The incident also highlights the important role played by Assam State Zoo in managing human-wildlife interactions within the region. The zoo’s rescue team serves as a critical frontline unit, regularly responding to calls involving distressed or dangerous wild animals.
