Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, alongside Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat, inaugurated the 8th Triennial Conference and Gathering of Elders in Dibrugarh on January 28. The five-day conference, organized by the International Centre for Cultural Studies, will continue until February 1, bringing together spiritual leaders from around 40 countries to discuss a roadmap for global peace and prosperity.

Addressing the gathering, Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the collective resolve to revitalize indigenous faiths globally and counter attempts to erode cultural heritage. He called for creating a deterrent against forces undermining India’s culture and traditions. Sarma expressed his satisfaction in sharing the stage with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, highlighting the importance of appreciating elders’ belief systems to strengthen societal bonds.

Acknowledging the negative global impact on indigenous traditions, Sarma stressed the need to draw upon the wisdom embedded in these faiths for a sustainable future. He emphasized that indigenous faiths in India, beyond being religious practices, are repositories of wisdom and an integral part of the nation’s cultural diversity.

Sarma highlighted the state government’s initiative to create a department exclusively focused on indigenous tribal faith and culture. He expressed hope that the conference would revive indigenous faith and culture, connecting the present generation with the values of the past and preventing cultural erosion.

Dr. Sarma thanked Mohan Bhagwat for his guidance and Shashibala, President of the International Centre for Cultural Studies, for organizing the conference. Bhagwat also addressed the gathering, emphasizing India’s enriching past and the need for a collective approach by world leaders for unprecedented global peace.

Various dignitaries, including Spiritual Leaders from Lithuania, Guatemala, America, Africa, and others, were present at the event. The Chief Minister expressed hope that the conference would lead to a shared vision and a roadmap for collective peace and welfare.
