Assam clinched their first victory of the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season with a dominant performance against Bihar at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati on February 12.

In a stellar display, Assam chased down a target of 95 runs in their second innings with ease, securing a 9-wicket win over Bihar. Opener Parvej Musaraf led the charge with an unbeaten 52 off just 41 balls, including a decisive six. Stand-in-captain Denish Das provided solid support, remaining unbeaten on 22.

Earlier in the match, Bihar, after being forced to follow on, managed to put up a total of 292 runs in their second innings, setting Assam a modest target. Rahul Singh emerged as the hero with the ball for Assam, claiming a five-wicket haul, supported by Sarupam Purkayastha and Mukhtar Hussain, who each picked up two wickets.

Looking ahead, Assam will face Mumbai in their upcoming match scheduled for February 16.

Despite this victory, it’s been a challenging season for Assam, as they currently sit just above Bihar at the bottom of the table with 8 points from 6 matches. They faced defeats against Chhattisgarh and Bengal, drew against Kerala, and suffered a loss against Andhra Pradesh. Their match against Uttar Pradesh ended in a draw as well.

As Assam strives to improve their standing in the competition, we salute their resilience and determination on the field.
