The Guwahati Sports Association (GSA) marked its 66th Foundation Day with its annual award programme to honour the achievements in various sports disciplines.
The event, held on April 25, saw a total of 196 sportspersons being felicitated for their remarkable performances across cricket, table tennis, badminton, volleyball, basketball, athletics, hockey, and inter-district championships, both in the men’s and women’s categories.
In a special recognition of excellence in cricket, the victorious Guwahati teams, champions of the JK Barooah U-19 inter-district cricket tournament and the Pulin Das U-14 inter-district cricket tournament were applauded for their remarkable feats on the cricketing field.
GSA general secretary Devajit Saikia congratulated the awardees and emphasized the significance of such accolades in motivating young sports enthusiasts. Saikia reiterated GSA’s commitment to continuing its tradition of honouring outstanding performances and pledged unwavering support to athletes participating in various competitions.
Distinguished guests graced the occasion, adding prestige to the event. Among them were Paresh Chandra Das, the president of GSA; Chiranjit Langthasa, treasurer of the Assam Cricket Association (ACA); Rajindra Singh, joint secretary of ACA; Kalyan Kumar Das, a former tennis player and president of the Guwahati Tennis Association; Bijoy Hazarika, a former state table tennis player and Prassanna Kalita, a life member of GSA among others.
